Assignment 2/3 Report
KIT724 Assignment 3-VR
Introduction
This application is museum-themed, and its purpose is to enable people to experience the museum better, especially when it is inconvenient for people to go out due to COVID-19 and various emergencies, such as the long-term closure of the museum, people will Use it to experience the museum and interact with the museum's collection.
Application Description
This application is implemented using Virtual Reality (VR). In this museum there are some various vases and paintings to display to the visitors. In addition, there is some music in this museum to enhance the visitor's feeling and visiting atmosphere. The purpose of the program is to improve the experience of people visiting the museum from the visual and sensory point of view, allowing visitors to have the same real experience as offline, and even provide better functions for interacting with exhibits. The novelty brought by this VR technology and interactive technology will make this application very popular and visitors will definitely keep coming (Clini et al. 2018).
This application is for those who are interested in visiting museums but cannot go offline for various reasons (eg: due to COVID-19, conflicting working hours, etc.). The application of VR virtual reality technology in the museum to display the exhibits in the museum can make the audience feel more realistic and appreciate the exhibits in an all-round way. As for pictures and videos used in traditional 2D technology, although video promotion is vivid, the cost is high, and pictures and videos cannot fully display it. Compared with flat 2D technology, VR virtual reality technology can make the audience feel immersive and get rid of the frame of the plane. The reality can be displayed more clearly and intuitively to the audience, and there is no need to worry about the exhibition when you appreciate the exhibits from multiple angles. cause damage to the exhibits. With the progress and development of the times, many industries have moved from the 2D plane era to the VR era. The application of VR virtual reality technology in museums is an important trend in recent years. At the same time, VR is also highly sought after by contemporary young people. The improvement of living standards and the innovation of people's concepts, the visual impact and immersive experience brought by VR virtual reality will give tourists a new experience and it can provide cultural lovers with convenient opportunities to visit non-local museums, breaking the Without the constraints of space and time, tourists can visit the museum without leaving home, and feel the real scene environment anytime, anywhere.
Compared with offline traditional museums, visitors cannot get close contact with the exhibits and cannot observe the details of the exhibits. They can only watch the exhibits from a distance or through the glass. The participation and interactive experience provided by VR virtual reality can more effectively increase the number of tourists. The sense of participation, the purpose of the interaction is exactly that. VR virtual reality technology can give tourists an immersive experience. As long as tourists wear VR helmets, they can "walk" in any corner of the museum. Not only that, they can also get close contact with the exhibits. When visiting the details of the exhibits, they can even pick up the exhibits and go through the whole process. You don't have to worry about the exhibits being damaged, and you can even experience the state of the exhibits in different colors. For example, tourists can pick up the exhibits to observe in 360 directions, and when the tourists touch the exhibits, the exhibits will change to another color, and the increase in the sense of touch also gives the tourists a sense of interactive experience. In addition, in addition to touch interaction, environmental interaction can also be achieved. When tourists approach the painting for a certain distance, they will hear music. The matching combination of these audio and paintings adds to the immersive viewing experience for tourists. Make each exhibit more vivid and enhance the sense of interactive experience. This immersion is created by the visitor being surrounded by sounds and images, making it feel as if they are really in front of the painting (Obradović et al. 2018).
Interaction Design
The storyboard of the Visual Museum application will look like this:
image.1
The application offers three different types of interactions to enhance the immersive experience of visitors. First of all, when visitors get close to the vase, they can use the Oculus controller to pick up the vase for a 360-degree panoramic view and observe the detailed design of the vase. Secondly, when tourists touch the vase, they can control the color of the vase through Oculus, which increases the interactive experience and fun for tourists. Finally, when visitors approach a painting on the wall, audio that matches the painting is played.
Technology Development
The application needs to be used with Oculus. Oculus' two controllers provide full use of the museum scene in VR technology, while the Oculus headset provides an all-round display of the scene.
3D Model
The application has two interactive objects and three interactive functions. The first object is a vase (image. 2), and the interactive function is: the visitor's touch will change the color of the vase, and the visitor can also pick it up for a 360-degree viewing. The second object is a painting (image.3), plays music when the user gets close to it.
